Taxi driver arrested in Thon Buri for driving drunk with a BB gun.
A taxi driver running a red light at an intersection in Bangkok’s Thon Buri district was arrested for drink-driving and a police search found a BB gun in his cab.
The pink taxi travelling from Dao Khanong-Chom Thong intersection running the red light at Taksin intersection on Taksin Road was stopped at the entrance of Soi Taksin 34 in Bukkhalo area of Thon Buri on Tuesday morning, said Pol Lt Col Chayang Benjathikul, traffic police chief at Bukkhalo police station, who ordered officers to stop the taxi after being alerted.
Driver Somchai Charoenying, of Buri Ram, initially refused to get out. He was carrying no passenger and officers smelled alcohol on him.
After talks, Mr Somchai later agreed to get out of his taxi. The officers then searched his taxi and found a BB gun inside a camouflage bag on the back seat. The driver was taken to Bukkhalo police station for a blood alcohol test, which found his alcohol level was 163 milligrammes, more than triple the legal limit of 50 mg per 100 ml.
He was charged with drink-driving and was held in police custody for legal action.
During the interrogation, Mr Somchai was still under the influence, giving confusing accounts about where he was heading to and the reasons for carrying the BB gun, said the traffic police chief.
Police have not pressed weapons charges against him as the BB gun had not been modified.
However, it could frighten people who might take it for a real gun.
