Patong staff walked into bloodbath.
The 63-year-old French tourist Digen Song Francis Gorgias was found dead with his throat cut in a Patong hotel room last night.
Patong police are investigating the death of an elderly French man who was found with his throat slashed inside his hotel room Wednesday evening.
Pol Capt Sirinat Chuetchutraguntong, a deputy investigator at Patong Provincial Police Station, was informed of the incident on Wednesday night at 20:45.
Shortly later, officers and rescue workers made their way to the Delicious Residence, a small hotel on Nanai Rd in Phuket’s Kathu district. Upon entering room no. 127, authorities found the body of a 63-year-old Frenchman named Digen Songfrancis Gorgias (name transliterated from Thai) lying in a large pool of blood on the bathroom floor.
The blood, police quickly found out, had been caused by a deep cut ranging from one side of the throat to the other. A blood-stained, 12-centimetre long kitchen knife was found next to the man’s body.
There were no indications the hotel room had been ransacked. A mobile phone, a computer, a wallet and a credit card belonging to dead man were still in the room.
Investigators were told the man had checked into the hotel alone on November 4 and was due to leave on November 30. A friend of the deceased told police that he had been to his room at 9:30 Wednesday morning and knocked, but did not get any response.
Around 21:00, the same friend returned and again knocked on the door. When there was again no response, he became concerned and asked a caretaker to use the master key to open the door, Pol Capt Sirinat said.
Police speculated the Frenchman might have had personal problems that drove him to slash his throat. The investigation is still ongoing; the body was sent to Patong Hospital for an autopsy.
